So, what's the Scorpion. Isn't the Scorpion the chopper? --Darth Stefan (Talk) 19:27, November 30, 2009 (UTC) This is the non combat version (used to transport avatars),and that is the combat one.JediShifty 04:20, December 20, 2009 (UTC) Actually, In the movie, these things also had two 4-packs of some kind of missiles 74.183.255.204 02:30, December 24, 2009 (UTC)

The Scorpion is an attack gunship, in the same style as the AH-1 Cobra, while the Samson is a utility/transport helicopter like the UH-1 Huey from Vietnam and the UH-72 Lakota, and like the Huey it can carry weapons beyond just door guns too. Talos5 03:55, December 28, 2009 (UTC)

Those aren't tilt rotors the V-22 is a tilt rotor the samson is a ductfan aircraft like this one http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:X-22a_onground_bw.jpg Derekproxy

  • Yes, it is. I mentioned the X-22 in the notes section and showed that it is -not- a tilt-rotor like the V-22. I missed the first sentence of the article, though, and corrected it. --Talos5 20:38, January 18, 2010 (UTC)

Resemblance with Halo[]

Actually, the Samson is more similar to the UH-144 Falcon tiltrotor from Halo: Reach (see this link [ http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Falcon_Tiltrotor ] or watch the trailer for more info) than to the Hornet AV-14. If you want, add this piece of information to the page. Greetings from Italy for the whole wiki.

Aérospatiale[]

"Aérospatiale was a French aerospace manufacturer that built both civilian and military aircraft, rockets and satellites. It was originally known as Société Nationale d'Industrie Aérospatiale (SNIAS). The former assets of Aérospatiale are now part of EADS…" -Wikipedia

Is Avatar some kind alternative history Sci-fi where Eurocopter was never founded? :P (Remember that scriptment is from ~94)

If the name of the ship is based on Aéropsatiale, you forgot the accent since english on wikipedia writes Aérospatiale with the accent.

Also, the last french gov defense minister (equivalent to the us secretary of defense) proposed help to north african  states in order to fight the rebellions so I'm not surprised that my country will sell SA-2 Samson to fight the navis :) 185.26.182.29 22:38, November 10, 2013 (UTC)

Really easy to kill!!![]

It'd be REALLY easy for a Na'vi riding an Ikran to kill one of these...just fly above it and drop a piece of branch or a small log into the rotors....ba-bing!

Assuming you get close enough while you have door gunners to contend with.

Design[]

"The SA-2 features a fuselage that is reminiscent of those made by Eurocopter and Aérospatiale, including the EC-135 and EC-145."

Not really, the SA-2 looks like the Sikorsky UH-60 Blackhawk but the idea of a ship that transport troops or

shoots down local population using door gunners is another parallel to the Vietnam war and to the  UH-1 "Huey".185.26.182.29 22:20, November 10, 2013 (UTC)

Samson as in "Samson Option"[]

Samson the biblical figure

Surprisingly no one mentioned this. The name of the vehicle may be a reference of the "Samson Option", a secret Israeli nuclear deterrence strategy.

It states that in a scenario where its enemies were about to overrun the country, Israel would respond with massive use of nuclear weapons as a last resort.

The concept comes from the biblical figure Samson, who pushed apart the pillars of a Philistine temple, bringing down the roof and killing himself and the Philistines who had captured him.

In short, the Samson Option is a threat that says, "if we’re going down, we are taking you with us", which Jake, Norm and Trudy exercised.
